    Remodeling Your Kitchen

Remodeling your kitchen can be either a massive, grueling undertaking, or a relatively pleasant experience, with only a minor disruption of your family’s life for a short period of time. While everyone understands the benefits of remodeling their kitchen, many are hesitant to undertake a remodeling project because they fear the process will disrupt their home life for long periods of time. But it doesn’t have to be this way. With a well-thought out plan for your kitchen remodel project, you can begin the remodeling with confidence it will run smoothly. Take time in advance to familiarize yourself with every aspect of your remodeling job and the process will flow in an easy, efficient way.

The single most important step to a satisfying kitchen remodeling project is planning. This plan will cover the overall look of your kitchen, as well as every aspect of the remodeling, such as appliances, cabinets, storage space, flooring, countertops, hardware and lighting. Put your kitchen remodel plan on paper, starting with listing all of these topics and anything else you’d like to add (perhaps you want to buy all new dishes and flatware to go with your new kitchen, for instance). Let’s look at each area you’ll need to consider, step by step.

Begin by thinking about the overall design. Do you like the way your current kitchen is configured? Or will your remodeling project need to take new traffic patterns and better use of space into account? Is there adequate light? Enough room for food preparation? Space for your family to gather? Do you want a contemporary kitchen or would you prefer to establish a more traditional mood with the remodeling? Once you get a vision for the look of your new kitchen, you can start to lay plans for the individual components.

The next step is deciding on appliances. If you are a gourmet cook who loves to create fancy meals, you are going to want to incorporate high-end appliances into your remodeling plan. If you are a more casual cook, this might be someplace you can save some money. Next think about cabinets. Will you need to replace the ones you have or can you perhaps do a cabinet refacing? If you are happy with the way your current cabinets are situated, cabinet refacing can be a good budgetary alternative. Consider the issues of storage space. Is what you have adequate, or do you need to find ways to carve out more? In today’s kitchen remodeling, there are so many options for elegant cabinets, with choices ranging from oak or cherry or birch, to laminate or glass-faced cupboards.

Flooring should be attractive and functional, as well as easy to clean. Many materials easily fit these criteria. Countertops also need to be easily maintained. There are natural and synthetic choices here, each with their own advantages. Lighting can vary from recessed lights to fancy chandeliers-it all depends on what you want the look of your kitchen to be. When it comes to hardware, do you want hand-made ceramic knobs for your cabinets, shiny chrome, or burnished black? These are just a few of your options.

Remember to write down all your ideas and keep good notes as you ask yourself these questions. When you’ve pondered all the options for your remodeling job, you can take your plan with you to a home improvement store or local contractor and you’ll have a huge head start on your kitchen remodeling project. With a strong plan in place, you’ll be cooking in your new kitchen in no time.

Nine Tips to Save Money on Gas

While gas prices are slowly falling down to a more bearable price, the high cost of gas is still playing havoc in the pockets of the American public. Two of the most obvious ways to cut gas consumption are to combine trips and carpool. But there are other ways consumers can save money on gas.

    1. Use a dashboard window sun cover to help keep the sun’s rays out of your vehicle. These are fairly inexpensive (about $15). Leave your windows cracked just a tiny amount to allow some air flow in the vehicle. When you crank up on a heated summer day, the air conditioner will not have to run as hard to cool the vehicle, thus saving gas.

    2. If you are in the market for a new car, consider purchasing a hybrid such as a Honda or a Toyota. These types of autos are more environmentally friendly and get great gas mileage. If you travel a lot, such as to work or traveling, a fuel efficient hybrid auto can save you a lot of gas money every year.

    3. Avoid driving during rush hour. Starting and stopping uses more gas than driving at a steady speed. When on the open road, use the cruise control to allow your auto to maintain a steady speed.

    4. If possible, don’t make trips during the hottest part of the day in the summer. Driving during the hottest part of the day causes the air conditioner to be run more, thereby causing the need for more gas usage. Make trips early in the morning or later in the evening.

    5. Keep your vehicle’s tires properly maintained. Tires that are do not contain enough air will cause your auto to use more gas. It’s a good idea to check the air pressure on your tires about once a month, particularly if you drive daily. Check your tires before traveling, when the auto has not been driven for a few hours. Rotate your tires regularly, and be sure to have your vehicle checked for proper alignment by a mechanic.

    6. Unload your auto! Avoid keeping items in your auto that you don’t need in it. Unnecessary weight causes more gas consumption. The heavier the vehicle is, the more it takes to move it, thus costing more in gas. Hauling items in your auto and using it for a storage container only adds to your gas bill.

    7. Change the air filter and fuel filter regularly. Changing the oil and checking the transmission fluid are also good choices for keeping your vehicle running smoothly and helping to save money on gas.

    8. Don’t buy gas when the gas tanker truck has freshly filled the reserve tanks. When the tanks are freshly refilled, any sediment in the tank is flushed throughout the entire tank of gas, and some of that sediment is sure to find its way into your auto tank. Use another gas store or wait a few hours to refuel, allowing time for the sediment to filter back down to the bottom of the tank.

    9. Fill your tank before major holidays and the first of the month. Gas prices in some areas are higher during the holiday season and on the first through the third of the month.

    The Perfect Christmas Gift

Each year as the Christmas season nears, the advertisements get hot and heavy for anything and everything that a person can shop for and purchase as a gift for Christmas. Turn on the TV and you see ads that basically say you don’t love your girl if you don’t buy her diamonds. Flip through a magazine and it’s loaded with more advertisements than content. Sign online and no doubt you will find tons of ads that scream BUY, BUY, BUY.

We all like to get gifts, that’s a given thing. But have we become so material oriented that we’ve forgotten about the greatest gift of all? The gift of love, of giving of oneself, far outweighs any amount of money that could be spent and any material things money could buy. The old saying that money can’t buy love hasn’t changed.

Many folks in today’s world are in such a hurry. We have instant oatmeal, instant coffee, microwaves, ready made meals, etc. We are in such a hurry to get where we are going that we fail to stop and see the beauty of where we are right now. It’s go, go, go, and don’t slow down while going. While we are in such a hurry, we forget to take time and enjoy life. We spend sometimes outrageous sums of money buying things for the people we love, yet deny them the greatest gift of all….. ourselves.

There is one perfect holiday gift. It’s a gift that can be shared and used throughout the entire year. It never gets overused. It never runs out of battery power. It never needs replaced. It’s the one thing you can never have too much of. That perfect gift is you.

Instead of spending a load of money for Christmas and going deeper into debt, wrap up something new and different this year. Wrap up a nice note that gives the gift of your time with those you love and that love you. Rather than trying to buy loads of stuff for the friends, kids, spouse, and loved ones, give the best gift there is, the gift of your time.

The most memorable Christmas gifts won’t be the ones that you spent hundreds of dollars on. It’ll be the gift where you gave of yourself, when you spent time with the people that love you and that you love.

Christmas is a multi-million dollar season, for the businesses who sell Christmas. Maybe it’s time to show he businesses what Christmas is really all about. Over the years, they’ve forgotten too. Christmas isn’t about money and stuff. It’s the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. It’s all about love. Instead of spending money on stuff, let’s spend ourselves on our loved ones.
